Introduced in 2012, cleanfire wood pellets are unique in many ways. These softwood pellets are made from 100 percent fir, one of North America’s most popular burning wood species.
These pellets are the most suitable to purchase online, but regrettably, they have annoying problems. On the positive side, they burn intensely, and the heat output is excellent. On the negative side, dust escapes when the pellets are poured into the cooker’s hopper.
Moreover, the ash content isn’t low (average), particularly compared to some top performers like the Okanagan Douglas. Their site’s advantage is that it also shows the locations of other retailers near your private zip code.

About Cleanfire wood pellets
There’s much misinformation about whether wood pellets produced from hardwood trees like beech and oak are better than those made from softwood (cedar, pine, spruce, etc.). This might appear odd, considering hardwood is often marketed as exceptional, but the signal is the best option if you care about optimizing heat output.
We know these pellet fuels are more expensive, and you might have some reservations. But much like driving a luxury automobile — the additional cost is well worth the general experience for all those burning the “Cadillac” of wood pellets. Moreover, Cleanfire hardwood heating pellets are another product that Cleanfire offers.
Review of Cleanfire wood pellets
This season, I ordered CleanFire Certified Premium pellets (softwood blend) (www.cleanfirepellets.com. The following is my experience with them over the heating season.
These Cleanfire wood pellets are close to 4 tons on three pellets, as there are 60 bags per pellet. First, I would like to review how the bags on the pallets arrive; I have had them come with many broken bags, which is a real pain.
Fortunately, these pellets came with only about 10 – 12 bags with holes large enough to spill pellets. I usually have a tape gun and scissors handy when I move the pellets into the basement to patch the holes, so I don’t wind up spilling loose pellets all over the driveway.
These pellets burn very hotly in my Quadra-Fire stove. They also leave a few clinkers in the fire pot. However, they are very dusty and have a lot of sawdust. The pellets are generally small, with many tiny pieces. Their coloration is usually yellow, with a few dark or darker pellets.
Unfortunately, when you load up the hopper, there is a cloud of dust when you pour them in, as the bottom of the bag always has a handful or more of sawdust. The amount of ash – I would say, is average to above average as the area around the fire pot fills rather quickly with ash.
Unless assured otherwise that I got a bad batch, I will not purchase these pellets again. The high heat is attractive, but this is more than offset by the high dust and sawdust content. I would give these pellets a two and a half out of five stars.
